Located on the continental divide northwest of Amethyst Lakes; southeast buttress of Vista Pass; north buttress of Moat/Tonquin Pass. on the border of Jasper & Mount Robson parks, Alberta/BC border. Major headwaters Athabasca & Fraser rivers.

Named by E. Deville (Director of the Geological Survey of Canada) in 1916. The name commemorates the ship which carried the Astor Expedition to the mouth of the Columbia in 1810. Indians killed most of the crew, the survivors then blew up the ship killing themselves.) Official name.
