Located on the continental divide in the Mistaya River and Blaeberry River Valleys above Cirque Lake; south of Midway Peak; north of Aries Peak. Banff Park, Alberta/BC border. Major headwaters Saskatchewan & Columbia rivers.

Can be seen from Highway 93N

Named by Arthur O. Wheeler in 1918. The formations resemble a stairway up the side of the peak. Official name.

First ascended in 1944 by Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Measuroll, J. Monroe Thorington,, guided by Edward Feuz jr.. Journal reference CAJ 29-164, 193; AAJ 5-435.
