Named by H.B. Dixon in 1897. Dixon, Olive (H.B. Dixon named the mountain after his wife Olive.) (*The 1927 ACC Gazette indicates it was named because of the colour of the rock.) Official name.

First ascended in 1927 by M. Cropley, G.A. Gambs, N.L. Goodrich, guided by Lawrence Grassi. Journal reference CAJ 21-126 CAJ 16-245.
