Located on the continental divide in the Whirlpool River Valley at the head of Hugh Allan Creek; 3.5 km south of Whirlpool Pass. Jasper Park, Alberta/BC border. Major headwaters Athabasca & Columbia rivers.

Named by Arthur O. Wheeler in 1920. The rock near the summit of the mountain was said to resemble a mallard duck. Official name.
