Named by Arthur O. Wheeler in 1919. The outline of the peak was said to resemble a needle. Official name.

First ascended in 1934 by C. Beattie, W.H. Cleveland, J.A. Corry, Rex Gibson, R. NeaveJournal reference CAJ 22-82.
