Located on the continental divide in the Mistaya River and Wildcat Creek Valleys; 2 km northwest of Caldron Lake. Banff Park, Alberta/BC border. Major headwaters Saskatchewan & Columbia rivers.

Named in 1918. The mountain takes its name from the Mistaya River. Mistaya is the Indian word for "bear." Official name.

First ascended in 1933 by H.S. Kingman, J. Monroe Thorington, guided by Conrad Kain. Journal reference AAJ 2-206.
