Located on the continental divide in the Mistaya River Blaeberry River Valleys at the head of Ebon Creek; south of Aries Peak; north of Breaker Mountain. Banff Park, Alberta/BC border. Major headwaters Saskatchewan & Columbia rivers.

Can be seen from Highway 93N

Named by Arthur O. Wheeler in 1917. Ebony-coloured (almost black) Ordivician rock makes up the summit of the mountain. Official name.
