Named by Topographical Survey in 1912. Mowat, Sir Oliver (One of the Fathers of Confederation, Mowat was a Premier of Ontario and later became Lt. Governor.) Official name.

First ascended in 1911 by G.B. Kinney, Arthur O. Wheeler, guided by Conrad Kain. Journal reference CAJ 4-59.

Other Information

Arthur O. Wheeler wrote that he named this mountain "owing to a resemblance seen from a certain point of view to the well known features of Sir Oliver Mowat." Mowat was premier of Ontario from 1872 to 1896. It is not known what Arthur Wheeler meant by this.
