Named by Alfred J. Ostheimer in 1927. Irvine, Andrew Comyn (Together with George Mallory, Andrew Irvine was last seen above 28 000 feet on Mount Everest and "going strong." Official name.

First ascended in 1927 by J. De Laittre, W.R. MacLaurin, A.J. Osterheimer, guided by Hans Fuhrer. Journal reference CAJ 16-33.

Other Information

Andrew "Sandy" Irvine (1902-1924) was a member of the 1924 expedition despite being only 21 years old. On June 8, 1924, Irvine and Mallory were last seen going for the summit of Everest.

Said to be a shy, handsome young man, Irvine had rowed for Oxford University prior to going to the Himalaya.
