James Porter

(1871-1939)

After joining Walter Wilcox and Robert Barrett on their trip to Mount Assiniboine in 1895, James Porter made numerous trips to the Canadian Rockies from his home in Illinois.

During his explorations of the upper headwaters of the Red Deer River in 1911, he chose the name ñSkokiî and named many of the features in the area.
