- Naming History
Located in the Snake Indian River Valley on the west side near many un-named creeks
Range: Pierre-Jean De Smet
Visible from Highway: 16
Named by: Morrison Bridgland
Named for: The mountain was named after Cumnock, Ayreshire, Scotland.
Cumnock was a village in Scotland and its name means "meeting of the waters." Two creeks which cut though the Pierre-Jean De Smet Range join the Snake Indian River immediately to the northeast of the mountain and this may explain why the name was chosen.
