Located in the Petain/Castelnau/Elk Glacier area above Petain Creek and Nivelle Creek. on the border of Kananaskis & Elk Lakes parks, Major headwater Kootenay River.

Named in 1918. Nivelle, Robert Georges (Nivelle was a French army commander whose 1917 offensive was said to have been a "catastrophic failure." Official name.

First ascended in 1928 by J.W.A. Hickson, guided by Edward Feuz jr.. Journal reference AAJ 1-3; CAJ 17-32.
