Jones, R.W. (A Grand Trunk Pacific Railway engineer, R.W. Jones surveyed the Alberta side of the boundary in the vicinity of the pass in 1906.

The pass is named on the map made by Mary Jobe and Curly Phillips following their expedition to the area in 1914 and 1915. It was published by the American Geographical Society. (see Mary Jobe biog.)
